Radial Step

Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 2025

We believe in being completely transparent about how we handle your information. This privacy policy explains what data we collect when you use Radial Step, why we need it, and how we protect it. If you have questions about anything here, just reach out.

Information We Collect

When you sign up for our courses or use our platform, we gather certain information to create your learning experience and keep your account secure. Here's what we collect and why it matters.

Account Information

When you create an account, we ask for your name, email address, and a password. We need your email to send you course materials, quiz results, and important updates about your learning progress. Your name helps us personalize your experience and appears on any certificates you earn.

Learning Activity Data

We track how you interact with our courses because it helps us understand what works and what doesn't. This includes quiz scores, completion rates, time spent on different modules, and which topics you revisit most often. Sarah from Calgary spent three hours on our flexible budgeting module last month, then came back twice to review specific sections. That told us those sections were particularly valuable, so we added more examples there.

Technical Information

Like most websites, we automatically collect some technical data when you visit. This includes your IP address, browser type, device information, and how you navigate through our platform. We use this to fix bugs, improve performance, and make sure the site works smoothly on your device.

We never sell your personal information to third parties. Your learning data belongs to you, and we treat it with the respect it deserves.

How We Use Your Information

Every piece of data we collect serves a specific purpose in making your learning experience better. We don't gather information just to have it sitting in a database somewhere.

  • Delivering course content: We use your account details to grant you access to the courses you've enrolled in and track your progress through them.
  • Personalizing your experience: Your learning history helps us recommend relevant courses and highlight areas where you might want additional practice.
  • Sending important updates: We'll email you about new course materials, quiz deadlines, and platform improvements that affect your learning.
  • Improving our courses: Analytics about how learners interact with content helps us identify confusing sections, add clarity where needed, and develop new courses that address real gaps in understanding.
  • Providing support: When you contact us with questions, having access to your account history helps us solve problems faster and give you better answers.
  • Maintaining security: We monitor for unusual activity patterns to protect your account from unauthorized access and keep our platform safe for everyone.

Last year, we noticed learners consistently struggled with one particular quiz question about variance analysis. Instead of just marking it wrong, we used that data to create additional explanatory content and interactive examples. That's the kind of improvement your data makes possible.

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We work with a handful of trusted service providers who help us run the platform, but we're selective about who gets access to your information and why.

Service Providers We Use

Service Type What They Do What They Access
Hosting & Infrastructure Store course content and keep the platform running Technical data, encrypted account information
Email Services Send course updates and notifications Email address, name, notification preferences
Analytics Tools Help us understand platform usage patterns Aggregated, anonymized usage statistics
Payment Processing Handle course enrollment payments securely Payment information (we never see card details)

All these providers are contractually required to protect your data and use it only for the specific services they provide to us. They can't use your information for their own purposes or share it with anyone else.

Legal Requirements

We might have to disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government regulation. We'll always push back against overly broad requests and only provide the minimum necessary information.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies to remember your login status, save your preferences, and understand how people use the platform. Most browsers let you control cookies through their settings, though disabling them might affect some platform features.

Our cookies fall into three categories. Essential cookies keep you logged in and remember your course progress. Analytics cookies help us see which features get used most and where people encounter problems. Preference cookies remember settings like your preferred language or notification choices.

Third-party analytics services might also place cookies to help us understand traffic patterns, but we've configured these tools to respect your privacy and not track you across other websites.

Your Rights and Choices

Your data belongs to you, and you have real control over it. Here's what you can do.

  • Access your data: Request a copy of all information we have about you, including your learning history and account details.
  • Correct inaccuracies: Update your profile information anytime or ask us to fix errors in your records.
  • Delete your account: Request complete deletion of your account and associated data. We'll remove everything except what we're legally required to keep.
  • Export your progress: Download your quiz results, completion records, and other learning data to keep for your own records.
  • Opt out of emails: Unsubscribe from promotional messages while still receiving essential course-related communications.
  • Limit data processing: Ask us to stop using your data for certain purposes, like analytics or course recommendations.

When Marcus from Edmonton requested his data last month, we sent him a complete download within 48 hours. When he later asked us to delete his account after completing his certification, we processed that within a week and confirmed when it was done.

Data Security

We take multiple steps to protect your information from unauthorized access, theft, or misuse. Your password is encrypted using industry-standard hashing algorithms, meaning even we can't see what it is. All data transmission happens over encrypted HTTPS connections, and we regularly update our security measures to address new threats.

Our servers are housed in secure facilities with restricted physical access, regular security audits, and redundant backups to prevent data loss. We monitor for suspicious activity and have incident response procedures ready if something goes wrong.

That said, no system is completely bulletproof. We do everything reasonable to protect your data, but we can't guarantee absolute security. Use a strong, unique password for your account and let us know immediately if you notice anything unusual.

Children's Privacy

Our platform is designed for adult learners and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you're a parent and believe your child has created an account without permission, contact us immediately and we'll delete it.

International Data Transfers

We're based in Canada, and our servers are located here as well. If you're accessing the platform from outside Canada, your information will be transferred to and processed in Canada under Canadian privacy laws. By using Radial Step, you consent to this transfer and processing.

Canadian privacy standards are strong, but if you're in the European Union or another region with specific data protection regulations, we'll take additional steps to ensure your rights are respected.

Changes to This Policy

We update this privacy policy occasionally to reflect new features, legal requirements, or changes in how we handle data. When we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email and post a notice on the platform. The date at the top of this page shows when we last updated it.

We recommend reviewing this policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information. Continued use of the platform after changes means you accept the updated terms.

Data Retention

We keep your account information and learning data as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we'll remove your personal information within 30 days, though we might retain anonymized analytics data to improve our courses.

Some information needs to be kept longer for legal or business reasons. Payment records, for example, are retained for seven years to comply with tax regulations. Course completion certificates are kept indefinitely since you might need proof of completion years later.

Questions About Privacy?
